Charlie Appleby hat am Montag bei einer der prestigeträchtigsten Ehrungen in Englands Rennsport gleich doppelt gewonnen.
Bei den 2021 Horserace Writers & Photographers Association Derby Awards in London sicherte sich Appleby den Titel des „Flat Trainer of the year“ und des „International Trainer of the Year“.
William Buick wurde „Flat Jockey of the Year“, auch das nicht unerwartet.
Wie der Titel der Auszeichnung sagt, ging es am Montag auch um journalistische Auszeichnungen. „Racing Writer of the Year“ wurde Lee Mottershead von der Racing Post. Einen in jeder Hinsicht lesenswerten Text von Mottershead hatte die Sport-Welt in der vorigen Woche abgedruckt. In diesem geht es um eine mögliche Neuausrichtung des kompletten Wettgeschäftes in England, das zu einer Zeitenwende im Mutterland des Rennsports führen könnte.
