Ten Most Wanted heads Super Derby
TEN MOST WANTED (Deputy Commander) will attempt the same double accomplished by his sire when he heads to the post in Saturday’s $500,000 Super Derby (G2) at Louisiana Downs. His sire is the last Travers S. (G1) winner to go on a take the Louisiana Downs‘ flagship race. Now, however, the Super Derby is contested at nine furlongs instead of 10.
Ten Most Wanted, like Deputy Commander, is trained by Wally Dollase. The dark bay colt will be ridden by Pat Day. Among those Ten Most Wanted is likely to face is the unbeaten SOTO (Dehere), last seen prevailing by neck over possible Super Derby contestant DYNEVER (Dynaformer) in the West Virginia Derby (G3) last month at Mountaineer Park. Soto, trained by Michael Dickinson, has five wins in all, including last fall’s Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.
Also probable for the race are KOOL HUMOR (Distorted Humor), ZYDECO AFFAIR (Islefaxyou), CROWNED KING (Barkerville) and TAXICAT (Tale of the Cat). These were the first four finishers in the August 30 Prelude S. at Louisiana.
Horses such as Sunday Silence, Unbridled, Concern and Tiznow have used the Super Derby as a springboard to success in the Breeders‘ Cup Classic (G1).
The post position draw will be Wednesday.
