QUOTES ARLINGTON

QUOTES A MILLION

Kent Desormeaux (jockey, Kicken Kris, 2nd place 1st): ‚I lost so much momentum. Lo and behold when he got all four feet on the ground, he re-broke. It was a very, very good performance. He was a deserving winner.‘

Michael Matz (trainer, Kicken Kris, 2nd placed 1st): ‚He’s acted for the last four weeks like he came out of the Bowling Green very good. He acted like he was a good horse and he showed it today. I wish I had an answer for his race at Churchill (6th in the Turf Classic), but we were happy the way he turned himself around.‘

Edgar Prado (jockey, Magistretti, 3rd) ‚I was about 6 or 7 lengths off the leader. I got through and made a run but I couldn’t sustain my kick.‘

QUOTES BEV D

Frankie Dettori (jockey, winner, Crimson Palace): ‚I think maybe the straight track at Ascot was a bit too much for her. She handled the turns here very well. She was in control and showed a good kick. It’s great to get her back to the way she was because she ran a couple of disappointing races back home. A great job by the team to get her back together.‘

Saeed bin Suroor (trainer, winner, Crimson Palace): ‚She’s a great filly. When she won the race in England, we knew she was a very tough filly and she came back from that race really well. The last race before we sent her here was disappointing. She showed she had the class to win a Grade or Group I. Well have to see how she comes back, but we’ll consider the Breeders‘ Cup.‘

Pat Day (jockey, Riskaverse, 2nd) ‚I had a pretty good trip. The pace was slow so I got a little stacked up in the turn. Once I got room she gave me a big effort. She came back after just two weeks rest so I think that was a nice race for her.‘

Neil Drysdale (trainer, Musical Chimes, 4th) ‚There was no pace in the race. That was our problem. This filly wants to come from off the pace and she ended up on the lead.‘

Don Pettinger (jockey, Bedanken, 5th) ‚My filly relaxed, but the pace was moderate. I was kind of stuck back there, trying to stay tucked in. At the ¼ pole, my filly ranged up there and I thought we were going to be all right. She kicked in, but they were kicking, too. It was a sprint down the lane. They all just stayed bunched, and then sprinted home.‘

Edgar Prado (jockey, Aubonne, 6th): ‚They were going very slow. She’s a filly that comes from off the pace. She needs to be covered up and I never got a chance to do that. She’s a very nice filly. She only got beat 3 lengths for everything. If I could have ridden her the way she likes to be ridden, I could have been right there today.‘

Eusebio Razo Jr. (jockey, Aud, 7th): ‚At the 3/8 pole, I was looking for a place to go. Turning for home, I asked her and she gave me a nice run, but with this kind of horses, you need to have a little more horse. The hole I needed didn’t open up at the right time, but she ran hard.‘

Brice Blanc (jockey, Shaconage, 8th): ‚I got a little bit trapped and when I asked her to go on, she finished up. There wasn’t much pace. I thought there would be a little more pace.‘

Jerry Bailey (jockey, Commercante, 9th): ‚I anticipated when the outside horse took back, I said it was going to be a slow pace. She was much closer (today) than she was in her allowance race and I was on the winner’s heels. But when they started running at about the 3 ½ (furlong pole), I kept pace until the quarter pole but the she came up empty for whatever reason.‘

Victor Espinoza (jockey, Quero Quero, 10th): ‚The pace was too slow. The trainer wanted me to take her back and make just one run. My horse made a move, but the other ones just took off at the same time. She ran good.‘

Mike Smith (jockey, Noches de Rosa, 11th) ‚We didn’t get away well. Basically, my race was taken away at that point. We ended up running well at the end but by that time they were all in a sprint and had gotten away from us.‘

Neville Callaghan (trainer, Magistretti, 3rd) ‚He ran a good race. I was pleased with him. He’s a good horse and he’s staying here with Patrick Biancone. I hope he has a good future here. In the meantime, I have to worry about the next one (Hazyview in Secretariat.)‘

Andreas Schutz (trainer, Epalo, finished 4th, beaten favorite but moved up to 3rd) ‚I’m happy with the horse. I wanted to be one-two in this race, but third is a good record. When Powerscourt pushed him, he squeezed him out of it. If that hadn’t happened he would definitely have been third and maybe even gotten up for second. But I’m very happy with the way he ran.‘

Andrasch Starke (jockey, Epalo, 4th placed third): ‚I’m a bit disappointed. He wasn’t the same horse he was in Singapore. I have no real excuses. I was bumped in the stretch and it cost me a bit of ground.‘

Jamie Spencer (jockey, Powerscourt, 1st placed 4th to ABC’s Jennine Edwards during the deliberation): ‚I had the best horse. If they (the stewards) take my number down, I think I’ll cry.‘ Spencer declined comment after the decision.

Jose Valdivia, Jr. (jockey, Vangelis, 5th) ‚I had a great trip. I got pushed out a little turning for home but then I made a little run at them. My horse flattened out the last 3/16.‘

Pat Day (jockey, Mr O’Brien, 6th): ‚We were moving nice around the turn. We turned into the backside and the 7 (Epalo) was a couple of paths off the fence, right on another horse’s heels, which is customary for the European horses to cover them up. I started to ease in there and snatched over in front of me. When my horse clipped heels, he stumbled dramatically. When he came up, he never got back into the race. The traffic off the turn, I was moving inside the second-place horse around the turn and had an opportunity to ease out and make a race of it, but he was not responding.‘

Robin Graham (trainer, Mr O’Brien, 6th) ‚Pat (jockey Day) said he clipped heels at the five-eighths pole.‘

Brice Blanc (jockey, Senor Swinger, 7th): ‚I had a pretty good trip. He broke good. They were going a good pace. On the backside, they kind of slowed it down a little bit. We got to the 3/8 pole, I thought we were in a good spot, everything kind of opened up for me. He just lacked a little kick for the finish.‘

Jerry Bailey (jockey, Sweet Return, 8th) ‚I had good position. I had a great trip. No horse.‘

Jono Jones (jockey, Mobil, 9th) ‚I was sitting in perfect position but then the other horses kicked in and he didn’t.‘

Rene Douglas (jockey, Mystery Giver, 10th): ‚I had a perfect trip. He was going real nice. At the 3/8 pole, I thought I had the race won but something happened to him right at the quarter pole and that was it. He was trying hard and making a real beautiful move. I felt something when he switched leads. He wasn’t the same. He didn’t come back real good.‘

Victor Espinoza (jockey, Sabiango, 11th) ‚I stalked the leader. Turning for home I made a run at him but then they were all coming. My horse just got tired in the stretch.‘

Frankie Dettori (jockey Vespone, 12th) : ‚The pace was fine. He relaxed well for me. Basically, he wasn’t good enough. We gave it a shot. The engine wasn’t there‘ Mike Smith (jockey, Hatif, 13th) ‚I didn’t really have much of a trip. He never really got into the race, so all I did was stay out of the way.‘
