In a surprising development, O’Brien announced that last week’s Coronation Cup third Black Sam Bellamy could step up to two and a half miles in the Gold Cup, the likelihood of fast ground making the stayers’ showpiece a possible target.
“He seems to have come out of Epsom well,” said O’Brien. “You wouldn’t mind running in the Prince Of Wales if you had slow ground as that would help him but he’s a possible for the Gold Cup.”
